This is my first post on my new gardening blog/diary thing I’ve decided to try and keep during 2025. To try and keep all my garden plans, thoughts, timings, successes and failures etc noted down, so I can learn from my mistakes, and maybe share some of my knowledge with anyone who is curious.
About me, I’m a self employed gardener, I have an RHS level 2 qualification, a Level 3 BTEC in Environmental Sustainability, a Diploma in Natural Sciences, and by the end of this year an honours degree in Combined Sciences. I’ve dabbled in hobby gardening most of my life, with interests in conservation and the outdoors. My curiosity for how things work, the discovery of natural plant remedies that healed my chronically sick horse, and the encouragement of a wonderful husband, sent me back to school as an adult to study Science. Covid got me started growing vegetables for the first time. Between university terms, I studied for my RHS qualifications, and I developed a fascination for soil science, biology, botany and plant genetics, organic and permaculture principles, sustainability and self sufficiency.
I have a slightly ridiculous pipe dream of one day having a homestead with small garden nursery, a gardeners retreat with a glasshouse coffee shop & gardening library filled with house plants and fairy lights, that can host workshops & talks on gardening, bush crafts etc. I’ve never shared that dream but as a big believer in the law of attraction it’s time to put it out there and see what happens!
Plans for this new year are to finally finish my degree after 6 years, expand the no-dig veg plot even further, double my dahlia growing efforts and grow more cut flower varieties, and perhaps try to start selling any excess home grown veggies and plug plants instead of giving them away.
Expect to see some beautiful images too, in my previous life I was a professional photographer, and this year it’s time to dig the real camera out and stop taking naff pictures on my phone.
